Seminar on Chinese Language Teaching in UK Universities 2023

On 28th Oct 2023, the Seminar on Chinese Language Teaching in UK Universities 2023 was successfully held at the University of Glasgow, organised by CLEC-UK and co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.

The theme of this conference was ‘Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language under Tradition and Innovation, within and beyond Campus’. After opening remarks from Vice-Principal Professor Moira Fischbacher-Smith from the University of Glasgow, 9 panellists for 3 panels and nearly 100 researchers from 45 organizations presented and discussed at the conference.

With the support of CI Southampton and guidance from the Directors, one of the 9 panellists, Mr Tao Peng, a lecturer from Chinese International Education College/Overseas Education College at Xiamen University and Mandarin teacher from the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton, also gave a presentation titled ‘Study on the Influence of Chinese Character Teaching on University Students' Chinese Learning Motivation’.

All panels focused on Creative Teaching and Innovative Pedagogy of Chinese, Overview of the Chinese Language Teaching in UK etc. and ended with a guest talk, titled 'Making Chinese an International Language: Is This Approach to Character Learning the Key to Realising that Ambition',which demonstrated the fruitful academic achievements of the seminar.
