Celebration of Chinese New Year by the Confucius Institute and the Southampton Chinese Association

The Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton, along with the Southampton Chinese Association, hosted a series of cultural events to celebrate the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival on 10th and 24th February 2024.

These events encompassed lively performances such as dragon and lion dances, choir singing, martial arts demonstrations, and Mongolian dances. Especially, the Confucius Institute ran workshops on calligraphy, paper cutting, and lantern making, providing participants with an opportunity to immerse themselves in traditional Chinese culture.

The event attracted the presence of Councillor Nick Couldrey, Mayor of Eastleigh, university staff and students, members of the Chinese Association, and local residents. The event were widely covered by local media outlets including the European Times, Chinese Headlines, ITV and BBC, among others.
