Professor Jane Falkingham awarded OBE

Published: 15 June 2015

Professor Jane Falkingham, one of the leading voices on population studies and demographic change in recent years, has been awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for services to Social Science in the Queen's Birthday Honours for 2015.

Jane is lead of the EPSRC Care Life Cycle Project, Director of the ESRC Centre for Population Change and Dean of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Southampton. Through a career spanning almost 30 years, her research pursues a multi-disciplinary agenda combining social policy and population studies, and spanning both developed and developing countries. Much of her work has focussed on the social policy implications of population ageing and demographic change, and what this means for the distribution of social and economic welfare.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam, commented “Through her research, academic leadership, globally-focused projects and influence in Government, Professor Falkingham has made an immense contribution to improving our understanding of the world’s population. Her work has provided unrivalled insights into how we will live and work over the decades to come. I am delighted that her achievements are being recognised with the awarding of an OBE.”
