Centenary Building

Teaching and learning centre takes shape

Anyone who has been on Highfield in the last few months cannot have failed to notice our new teaching and learning building taking shape between the interchange and Salisbury road.

As the seven storey Centenary building nears completion and as a thank you for your patience during the construction process we wanted to give you a sneak peak of the fantastic facilities the building has to offer.

Below you can see images of the different spaces inside the building including an 80 seat Harvard lecture theatre, offering a more intimate teaching setting proven to be an effective method of improving collaboration in lectures. Centenary will also have an independent study space, providing a more creative and flexible learning environment.

The height of the building ensures you have brilliant views across the campus from many of the teaching rooms.

Alongside the Harvard lecture theatre, the building also has a larger (250 seat) standard lecture theatre, the preparations for the seating installation are currently underway.

This substantial investment in new teaching space will be building 100 and called ‘The Centenary building’ to help us mark 100 years on the Highfield site. The centre will ensure the University maintains its world-leading position by providing a flexible and functional learning environment with modern facilities, enhancing the student experience. The work will also significantly improve  the pedestrian experience on the entire North side of the Highfield site making crossing Salisbury Road easier and enhancing many of the courtyard spaces.

Take a look at our 'fly-through' artist's impression video to see how it will look.

Please note the video features artist's impressions of the building, and final finishes may vary.

Substantial investment

Due to open for the 2019/20 academic year, this new centre for teaching and learning will include a 250-seat lecture theatre, a Harvard-style lecture theatre and several large, bookable seminar rooms over its seven floors

With a new catering option at street level and dramatic improvements to the campus areas around the building, including a new pedestrian-friendly road surface for Salisbury Road, the Centenary Building represents a substantial investment in learning and teaching facilities on the Highfield campus.
