Why Sponsor A Summer Project

Each year the CORMSIS group at Southampton university works with over 40 external organisations via our Summer project scheme.

The comments below are testament to the quality our students and the professionalism of our academic project supervisors. More information on any of these projects can be provided by our Industrial Liaison Officers.

1st Credit Ltd

Student project title: "Anthroponomastics - Grouping customers to predict value of loan portfolios"

[The student] conducted research and trialled a number of analytical/modelling techniques that we didn't have the time to do
[We will] continue with the research, adapt the techniques and continue testing and developing our processes.
I was really impressed that the university ran a SAS course before the students joined the company... helping them get to grips with the data systems and project tasks early on.

Student project title: "Improve forecasting and planning in manufacturing through VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory)"

Extremely professional approach by the student...brought new ideas in how to look at the problem
We continue looking at the benefits of VMI globally and start defining a project to develop and implement it.
Lena was highly motivated and ambitious to even cover all extensions of the project....All in all it is an overwhelming workload she mastered with a huge outcome.

Student project title: "Modelling Time Between Failures for engine production line facilities"

[The project] identified that current process ... for modelling MTBF is incorrect and using the correct method impacts the results of the model [used in production planning]

Integrated Neurological Services (INS)

Student project title: "Analysis of operational structure at INS"

[The project provided value by] eliciting view of all internal stakeholders prioritising requirements and presenting several solutions for Board and executive to consider
[Output will be used in] exploring possibility of formal restructure in New Year

Mouchel Management Consulting - Centre for Workforce Intelligence

Student project title: "Developing an integrated supply model for health and social care using Occupational Therapy as an example"

One of the most beneficial outputs of this work was that Oksana was able to summarise the work that has been done so far in supply modelling techniques drawing on research from around the world in order to identify best practice and compare with our current thinking.
We are currently moving forwards how we perform our supply and demand modelling for the health and social care workforce and Oksana's work has helped to support that
