Take part in COVID-19 testing

Updated 01/04/2021: Saliva testing paused, swab testing available

There is currently a pause in saliva testing over the Easter break, with drop off points closed temporarily from Friday 26 March.

This is due to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Saliva Testing Programme, which is now delivering saliva testing for the University, moving to a new laboratory that is not yet working at full capacity.

The continued safety of those who are spending time on campus continues to be our highest priority. To ensure those of you who need to be on campus can continue to test, we have arranged for swab testing to be available.

Staff and students can pick up test-at-home kits for swab testing (officially called Lateral Flow Device (LFD) testing) from community-led testing sites.

As soon as saliva testing is available again, participants will receive a text and email with instructions about when to next take a test. Please keep hold of your testing kits and label sheets until saliva testing resumes.

When to test

Once at University, staff and students are expected to have a negative test result before they take part in on-campus or in-person teaching and research.

While at University, staff and students are expected to test on a weekly basis if they are accessing any of the University campuses, shared  facilities or halls of residence.

This is to ensure we maintain a COVID-secure University, helping to keep everyone safe from infection.

How to test

Each pack contains seven tests. Please follow the instructions in the testing kit.

The tests are easy to use and give results in 30 minutes.

You will need to register your result online with the NHS. There is a simple set of questions. Please note: When you are asked 'Who was the test for?' you need to select ‘None of the above’.
