Hi, I'm Hairong Mu and I studied MPhil/PhD in Economics within Social Sciences: Economics at the University of Southampton.

What's most important is that the Division ranks very highly in the UK. It is widely recognised for the high quality of both its research and teaching.

The University of Southampton enjoys a notable reputation in the UK. Every time someone mentions Southampton, both the Titanic and the Mayflower come to my mind – that's all I knew before I came here! After a year of living and studying in this city, which is the largest in southern England, I realised it was more than that.

How did you settle in to Southampton?

I was born in a seaside city of China so I naturally harbour a special love for the sea. Because of the geographical similarity, I felt at home in Southampton; in fact it could be called my 'second hometown'!

Why did you choose Economics at the University of Southampton?

What's most important is that the Division ranks very high in the UK. It is widely recognised for the high quality of both its research and teaching.

How did you find adapting to life in the UK?

Before I started my course in Southampton, I had just obtained my Masters degree at home. A different education system, language, environment, research methods and so on have all had an impact on me. However, thanks to continual friendly and warm-hearted support from both academic and many other University staff, I have overcome all these difficulties and become used to the life here.

You never need to worry about your study and life here, as everyone around you is delighted to help you at any time.
