University of Southampton doctoral researcher encourages young people to register to vote in the EU referendum
Rebecca Ridley recently participated in a ‘register to vote’ event that was organised by Petroc College’s Student Union. Rebecca, who specialises in education and youth political participation, put the Remain case at the meeting in May.
Rebecca said:
"I'm passionate about young people getting involved in the Remain side because I believe the EU has so much to offer them, such as the right to study anywhere across the EU, and access to jobs. I have done so much research with young people. In my experience, they might not vote, but they are really interested in politics and all have something to say. This will be one of the first meetings for them in North Devon and hopefully we can get more going. I hope it will stir up the minds of younger people. I want them to feel they are connected to something bigger."
