Future Leaders Fellowship awarded to expert in digital accessibility
Dr Sarah Lewthwaite, who teaches digital accessibility at the University of Southampton, has been recognised for her innovate work in the field through a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowship.
Sarah, who is based within the University’s Centre for Research in Inclusion, a part of the Southampton Education School, has become one of the first 50 academics in the UK to be awarded this prestigious Fellowship.
Her project, which has been awarded over £650,000 from UKRI, will delve into digital accessibility education at the university and in the workplace, establishing this as a field of academic research and will forge new collaborations and dialogue between academia and industry.

Dr Sarah Lewthwaite MA, PhD, FRSA
Dr Sarah Lewthwaite is a Senior Research Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton. Sarah first joined the Department as a Research Fellow at the National Centre for Research Methods. She is now based in the Centre for Research in Inclusion where she leads the “Teaching Accessibility in the Digital Skill Set” study as Principal Investigator, and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow (2019-2023).
