Event details
This one day conference led by Anne Goldsworthy at the University of Brighton is suitable for everyone involved with teaching science at infant, junior and primary school. The day will provide advice, support and practical activities to help address the big issue of assessing children's progress in science without using levels.
There will be both ideas to help with your role as teacher and science subject leader and to use with the children in science lessons. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions of the trainers who are always happy to discuss and offer valuable guidance and suggestions.
Keynote Speaker - Anne Goldsworthy “ Assessing Primary Science: Out with levels in with learning ”
The levels are going. We should grab the chance to devise a system of assessment that is valid, reliable and that really helps children learn. Anne will suggest ways in which we could make this happen.
Hands-on practical workshops - led by Anne Goldsworthy, Debbie Eccles and Kate Blacklock
Planning for effective assessment – but not in a boring way!
In this workshop we’ll look at ways of devising units of work so that teachers can assess what children have learnt. In the process we’ll see how children will be able to recognise for themselves the progress they have made and have a lot of fun as well.
Tracking progress in Working Scientifically
This workshop aims to highlight how progression in enquiry skills can be found in the new curriculum and how to make judgements about the children's attainment in the more practical elements of science.
Taking the lead with primary science assessment
This workshop offers advice on taking the lead to develop, monitor and track progress in science and will include the opportunity to try out
These workshops are repeated throughout the day, so everyone attending will get the opportunity attend all workshops and will receive keynote and workshop materials together with further resources, which have been designed to save hours of work for busy teachers and are freely adaptable to suit the needs of individual schools.
Please note this conference is also running on 3rd July at Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey or 4th July at Oxford Brookes University if these dates are more suitable for you.
