Event details
The Primary Science Inquiry Network follows on from our successful project Developing Inquiry Skills across the Curriculum: a project with the Mary Rose Trust, funded by the Primary Science Teaching Trust. The network involves teachers from schools in Southampton and Hampshire and runs as a series of twilight sessions at exciting locations around the region.
Our project brought together teachers from three local Southampton primary schools, researchers from University of Southampton who had worked on aspects of the conservation of the historic warship, the Mary Rose, staff from MSLC, the Mary Rose Museum and Primarily Science to explore inquiry skills. Teachers and researchers worked together at the University and in schools to compare approaches to inquiry in each setting, and we visited the Mary Rose Museum on several occasions to develop strategies for inquiry in this setting. Teachers carried out research in their own classroom and reported very positive improvements in their own, and the children’s approach to inquiry. We are now building on the success of the project by establishing a primary science inquiry network.
In 2014/15 we are running twilight sessions to explore innovative approaches to science inquiry in locations across our region. Sessions will be led by experienced presenters from the venue or MSLC.
