We are delighted to publish details of our launch event for the University of Southampton Science Learning Partnership Hub at Queen Elizabeth's School, Wimborne on Wednesday 4th March 2015.
The Science Learning Partnership for Dorset, S Wiltshire, Bournemouth & Poole is managed by the Mathematics and Science Learning Centre , University of Southampton.
The Science Learning Partnership Hub at Queen Elizabeth's School will provide a range of professional development in STEM subjects for the SW Consortium Science Learning Network . The School will host and deliver PD, ascertain local needs, maintain communication with schools and colleges in the surrounding area and act as a central hub.
At this event, we will present the plans for professional development programmes for spring and summer 2015 and showcase the range of support for STEM that is available through the Science Learning network and its partners including Royal Society of Chemistry, Society of Biology, Primary Science Teaching Trust, Primary Science Quality Mark, Explora Science, CLEAPSS and more. There will be sessions for subject leaders including tasters of our professional development activities. The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) will present on the impact of professional development and there will be a range of exhibitors.
The event is free to attend and is suitable for subject leaders (secondary and primary), senior leaders, Headteachers, Local Authority Advisers, CPD Coordinators and those with an interest in professional development.

4.55pm | Keynote speaker: Dr Will Barton, FRSC, MIoD. The importance of STEM in education |
5.15pm | Workshops: Sue Bull, Director of ASCL Professional Development, Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL). Secondary and primary science workshops from David Shakespeare (Great expectations! – Adapting to changes in the secondary science curriculum) and Caroline Galpin (Why CPD in Primary Science? - a taster). |
6.30pm | Networking, partner exhibitors and buffet. Finish at 7.30pm. |
