Bogdan Balan wins “Best Poster” Award
Bogdan Balan recently won the best poster presentation award at the 3rd Engineering Sciences Postgraduate Conference.
The winning poster was selected by a panel judges from over 25 extremely qualitative research works of 2nd year PhD students of 5 different research groups within the Engineering Sciences Academic Unit: Bioengineering Sciences, Electro-mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, Engineering Materials and National Centre for Advanced Tribology.
Bogdan’s PhD work shows how using the recently developed hybrid contour method/eigenstrain technique the residual stress states present in commercially available glass panels can be efficiently characterised. This allows further investigating the structural response of glass structures in a computationally efficient manner, offering the right balance between level of modelling and accuracy of design that is often sought by the structural designers. Bogdan really enjoys and feels rewarded working on this project and believes that research output will help improve the design of glass structures. Bogdan would like to sincerely thank his supervisor, Dr Mithila Achintha , for his constant guidance, support, motivation and more importantly, for the amount of interest shown in his work.
