A trio of top performing students in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton has received scholarships for the second year in succession thanks to the generosity of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF).

The students – Jeremy Fong, Yap Jun Hou and Tai Je See – received recognition during a civic reception hosted by the University of Southampton at the new Boldrewood Innovation Campus in Southampton where Lloyd’s Register has recently established its Global Technology Centre. University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam, and Lloyd’s Register Marine Director, Tom Boardley made the presentations, praising the students for their efforts in maintaining the high standards established during their first year of study.

All three of the students are now in the third year of their MEng in Mechanical Engineering degree programme which has seen them make the successful transition from the University’s Malaysia Campus in EduCity, Iskandar in south Johor to Southampton’s Highfield Campus in the UK. They are amongst the first group of 20 students to make the journey to the UK as part of the University’s Integrated International Engineering Education (IIEE) programme which also involves students in Malaysia studying degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and, from September 2015, Aeronautics and Astronautics.

This year’s LRF scholars in Mechanical Engineering were recently joined by three students in Malaysia to receive inaugural LRF scholarships in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in recognition of their excellent academic and personal performance. Stephen Chai, Yiqian Hui and Aaron Pang received their scholarships during a recent ceremony in Malaysia.
