Students represent the University of Southampton at a global conference on social entrepreneurship

Published: 23 March 2016

Five undergraduate students will be representing the University of Southampton at the UK-India Social Entrepreneurship in Education Network Conference (UKISEEN) in Chennai, India on 15th and 16th April. The conference, which has been organised by the Social Impact Lab at the University of Southampton in partnership with IITM and SP Jain in India, aims to promote collaboration and best practice in social entrepreneurship teaching between UK and Indian universities.

The students will be designing and leading two sessions during the conference, designed to showcase their knowledge and experience of social entrepreneurship at university. The first session will be a student-led panel discussion, where educators from across UK and Indian universities will be able to hear the experiences of social entrepreneurship students at their respective institutions; the students will also participate in a debate around the wider issues of social entrepreneurship in society.

The students will be presenting their sessions to educators and academics who are working in the field of social entrepreneurship at universities in the UK and India and their participation will contribute to the development of a stronger and more dynamic ecosystem for student social entrepreneurs in the two countries. Dr Pathik Pathak, University Director for Social Entrepreneurship, said: “We are delighted to have five fantastic ambassadors for student social entrepreneurship at the launch of the UKISEEN network. They speak to the quality, diversity and internationalisation of social entrepreneurship at Southampton and we are looking to hearing them share the stories of their success at the conference in India this April”.

The students were selected to participate in the conference through their involvement and achievement during the Social Enterprise Module and the Social Innovation Challenge, both hosted by the Social Impact Lab.

The students are:

Andreas Ostrovsky-Pereira: International Relations (3rd year)

Annie Wilkes: Anthropology (3rd year)

Katie O’Sullivan: Geography (3rd year)

Janina Vabo: Management with Entrepreneurship (2nd year)
