Ilaria Cinelli B.Eng, M.Eng, and Emerging Space Leader at the National University of Ireland in Galway
Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary discipline embracing chemistry, medicine, mechanics, and electronics. Thanks to the progress in space and space life sciences, a new field within biomedical engineering arises from the needs of medical technology and life support systems in space exploration and commercial spaceflights. This talk will drive the audience through the complexity behind space life sciences, highlighting the emerging technology that can boost both life in space and health on Earth. This lecture aims at supporting multidisciplinary approach in research fields in which integration of resources and technology is mandatory to support life in extreme environments. In the end, the case of human settlements on Mars is shown as a practical case involving engineering, psychology, management and arts.

Ilaria Cinelli (B.Eng. M.Eng.) , National University of Ireland . Ilaria Cinelli (B.Eng. M.Eng.) is a PhD student in computational modelling for neural applications at the National University of Ireland in Galway since 2013, and lectures in biomedical engineering at the Youth Academy for young gifted children. She is actively involved in multi-disciplinary research projects and activities such as Mars analogue missions and space life sciences. She aims to markedly contribute to human settlements on Mars within the next decades and to increase the quality of medical care on Earth, because life in Space is for life on Earth!
