ISVR Research seminar

Speaker: Professor Mahdi Azarpeyvand, University of Bristol

Mahdi Azarpeyvand is Professor of Aeroacoustics at the University of Bristol. He held a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship position between 2011-2016 and was a member of the Rolls-Royce UTC at the University of Southampton (2003-2011), and the Acoustics group at the University of Cambridge (2011-2013). He currently leads the aeroacoustics team at the University of Bristol with over 20 members. His research is focused on experimental and theoretical aeroacoustics, better understanding of noise generation mechanisms using advanced experimental tools, and development of passive/active techniques for reduction of aerodynamic noise, such as porous treatments, serrations and finlets. His research on noise generation characterisation of aerofoils at different operating conditions, using highly instrumented wings has led to several large collaborative research activities and improved understanding of aerodynamic noise generation mechanisms. His research has been supported by the RAEng, EPSRC (EP/S013024/1, EP/S000917/1, EP/R010846/1), Royal Society, Horizon 2020 (AERIALIST, ARTEM, INVENTOR), CleanSky (SilentProp, U-HARWARD), and industry (Vertical Aerospace, Aircraft Research Association, Embraer, GE, Atomic Weapon Establishment, Vestas). MA has designed and built several facilities, including the National Aeroacoustic Facility (AAWT), the Pressure Neutral Acoustic Wind Tunnel (PNWT) and several propeller test rigs. He has published over 170 journal and conference papers.
