Event details

Professor Lisa Shaw discusses how she has used musical film as a tool for promoting wellbeing in care settings in the UK and Brazil.

This talk will introduce Hallam and Shaw ‘s Cinema, Memory and Wellbeing Toolkit. First developed during a pilot project in Liverpool, the toolkit is now utilised on NHS wards, in various care settings and by voluntary groups across the North West and in Brazil. It will summarise the findings of the research published in the book for practitioners Movies, Music and Memory: Tools for Wellbeing in Later Life (Hallam and Shaw eds., Emerald, 2020). The talk will discuss how thinking about film as a wellbeing tool enables it to better support a wide range of meaningful activities and encourage reminiscence among older adults and people living with dementia, strengthening a sense of self and belonging.
