Clinical trial needs volunteers
Researchers at the University of Southampton’s Macmillan Survivorship Research Group (MSRG) have been developing a website to help support people living with fatigue and would like to find out what people think about it.
Approximately two million people are living with or beyond cancer in the UK, and this figure is rising by 3% each year. Cancer survivors can face a wide range of problems following primary treatment but one of the most frequent and distressing of these is cancer-related tiredness, also known as fatigue.
Matt Breckons, MSRG senior research assistant, says "Macmillan Cancer Support is funding a project to help support people living beyond cancer but experiencing fatigue after treatment. We are currently looking for individuals who have finished treatment for cancer and are experiencing fatigue, and would be interested in contributing to our research."
The MSRG is appealing for people to test the new website at home over two to three weeks in June and take part in a telephone call to give feedback after each session is completed (there are five sessions in total). Once the five sessions have been completed the research group would like to speak the volunteers in person, either at home or at the University, about their views of the website.
