On 10th October four of the Faculty's academic staff were awarded Fellowships at the new Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. This is the first Faculty of the Royal College of any allied health profession.

Dr Alan Borthwick, Dr Cathy Bowen, Mr Keith McCormick and Dr Ivan Bristow have been made inaugural Fellows with Dr Alan Borthwick and Dr Cathy Bowen also having been appointed members of the Executive Board of the new Faculty.

Last Tuesday staff and students were given an insight into what lies within the outline of the world's second largest continent when award-winning journalist, Tim Butcher, gave a lecture to mark the Faculty's new relationship with the charity AMECA.

Tim, who is a patron of AMECA, spoke about his eye-opening and sometimes dangerous treks along the Congo River and in Sierra Leone.

The Faculty will be raising funds and donating their time in support of AMECA when students and staff travel to Ghana next year to help renovate a much needed rural health dispensary.

Dr Anne Bruton, an expert in respiratory rehabilitation, has become the first Physiotherapist in the UK to receive a National Institute for Health Research Senior Research Fellowship Award.

Dr Bruton will use the five-year funding to further her research in the management of chronic respiratory diseases without the use of drugs or medication.
