An RN4cast study led by Professor Peter Griffiths linking higher death rates with increased number of healthcare assistants employed in NHS hospitals has been covered in the Nursing Times. The research was presented recently at the Royal College of Nursing's International Nursing Research Conference in Belfast.

Sue Latter's team won the Joanna Mugridge award first prize for a poster presentation entitled 'A phase I-II feasibility trial of Cancer Carer Medicines Management: an overview'. The design and presentation of the poster was led by Senior Research Fellow, Dr Elizabeth Lowson.  The award was announced at the recent Marie Curie Annual Research Conference and gives the team a cash fund towards attendance at future conferences and training courses.

A Human Library event is to take place at The University of Southampton on Tuesday, 7th May from 12noon to 2pm. The Human Library is an innovative method designed to promote dialogue, reduce prejudices and encourage understanding.  Visitors to a Human Library are given the opportunity to speak informally with "people on loan". You can keep up to date via the event page on Facebook, the Good Mental Health Cooperative website, or by contacting Sandy Walker who is a volunteer coordinator for the service.

The Daily Echo has covered a new report published by the RCN and the University of Southampton calling for greater support, funding and training for specialist dementia nurses. Author of the report, Professor Peter Griffiths, is quoted within the article.

Julie Wintrup and colleagues took part in a symposium to discuss ‘Student engagement: pedagogy or politics.  This event brought together over 50 delegates connected through the HEA, RAISE network and NUS.  Our UG student nurse Caroline Avis made a great contribution as did PhD students from other faculties. New perspectives on working in partnership emerged which will form the basis of a collaborative paper. A Twitter chat from the event has been storified here.
