New network launches to enhance support for people affected by dementia
With the quality of care and support for people affected by dementia high on the Government's agenda for 2014, the University of Southampton is pioneering a new network to facilitate conversations and priority setting in this area.
The Dementia Action Research & Education (DARE) Network will launch on 10th September this year with the aim of engaging those studying and working in the NHS, private healthcare, research and education to share resources and innovative ideas.
DARE has been set up by Dr Ruth Bartlett, a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Ruth recently developed The No Limits| Re-imagining Life with Dementia Educational Resource - the culmination of a pioneering two-year ESRC funded research study on the rise of activism amongst British people with dementia.
The first DARE Network meeting is open to all and will feature a presentation on 'Creating a Possibilities Discourse' by Professor Sherry Dupuis of the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Sherry Dupuis is the former Director of the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP), and a Professor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of Waterloo. Sherry's research programme has focused primarily on identifying ways to improve the quality of the lives of people living with dementia and their families.
