Researchers including Professors Alison Richardson and Mandy Fader, and Associate Professor Lucy Brindle, have been awarded three grants from the Movember Foundation totalling £2.06m. They will investigate how to improve continence management, how men and their families can be empowered to make better informed decisions about their care and treatment and how the care given after treatment can be improved. Congratulations to pre-registration physiotherapy student, Faye Burrow, who gave a podium presentation at the Society for Back Pain Research Conference in Dublin last week. Her presentation (with supervisor Dr Lisa Roberts) was entitled “Shut up and listen”: Measuring the prevalence of verbal interruptions during clinical encounters . Only the 19 highest-scoring abstracts received a podium presentation.

Congratulations also go to Dr Lisa Roberts who has been made President of the Society for Back Pain Research which is a great honour, not least because it is the leading back pain research society nationally.

Professor Carl May has an editorial published in the BMJ,‘ Thinking about the burden of treatment’ , with fellow author from the University of Glasgow, Frances S Mair, Professor of Primary Care Research.
