Improvements to HR service delivery for the new academic year
For a number of months HR has been exploring what ‘simply better’ service would look like to help the University achieve its vision and strategy.
Building on feedback received from within and outside HR, changes to the following key areas are being made from 4 July as part of our continuous improvement.
- All general HR advice and guidance will be immediately accessible by contacting our new ‘Ask HR’ service. This will give the University access to more immediate and responsive generalist HR support – in person, phone or email.
- Day to day interactions with HR will continue as before by raising a ticket online through ServiceNow, offering automated transactional services to improve service quality and effectiveness. The second phase of online HR Requests will also go live on 5 July.
- People managers requiring specific guidance and advice with employee relations matters will be assigned an Employee Relations specialist when necessary, providing robust employee relations expertise and dedicated casework support.
- Deans and Directors will be assigned a dedicated HR Business Partner providing support to University leaders on local people priorities that enable the University strategy.
Although these changes will be implemented on 4 July 2016, some are already in train to help maintain a seamless service for our customers. From July, a rolling process of piloting and testing new ways of working will continue over the summer months and feedback from our customers will enable us to keep improving our service.
The new HR organisation (see FIG 1 and 2 below) will then be fully operational from 1 October 2016, ready for the start of the academic year.
