Welcome, to the University of Southampton and congratulations on your appointment.  The information contained in these pages will help you to familiarise yourself with the University and provide the details you need to get you started and to settle in as quickly as possible.

Induction, Probation and Pay

We help new employees settle in through our central New Staff Induction site and local induction activities. We also provide a range of essential information through our online learning packages. These cover various topics, including health and safety and equal opportunities.  For further information view Induction Explained.

New appointments to the University of Southampton are subject to a probationary period.  Your probation period will be dependent on your grade and will be stated in your contract of employment. 

All University staff are paid on the last working day of the month, apart from December when the payroll is run early.  Payslips are made available a few days before payday and are accessible via MyView, which is a secure online system where staff can also book holiday, record absences, record appraisal discussions and amend their personal data.
