Event details

An event for residents from Southampton and the region to come together with millions of others across the world to mourn the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

The event, held at the Sir James Matthews building, Southampton Solent University, will be opened by the City's Mayor, Councillor Derek Burke. Southampton residents will hear testimony from Holocaust survivor, Harry Bibring, as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET).

The testimony will be followed by a question and answer session to enable the audience to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth.

Sixth form students from Itchen College will then have the opportunity to reflect on the lessons of the Holocaust, and to give their responses to their own readings of Holocaust testimony.

The evening will close with a performance from Southampton Solent University drama students, in which they will offer a powerful and moving interpretation of the plight of Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
