Have you ever experienced people being treated differently or seen this in the news or on social media? The process of marginalising particular social groups based on factors such as race, religion, sexuality and disability has taken place across time and has led to the deliberate creation of negative stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination, especially in the media.
Join academics and students from the History department at the University of Southampton in exploring different examples of ‘othering’ in the past. Learn about how and why it has happened previously, and how we can use this knowledge to identify and challenge when it is taking place today.
