Who can apply for the Southampton Summer School?
The Southampton Summer School is open to anyone currently in university or who has graduated recently. It is primarily aimed at second to fourth year undergraduate students, but offers a variety of courses that can suit first year undergraduate students and postgraduate students. You can join a Southampton Summer School course if:
- You are 18 or older at the start of your course.
- You are currently in or have recently graduated from university.
- You have the necessary level of English proficiency to study at a UK university. More details on this are available below.
- You are prepared to obtain the necessary permissions to travel to the UK. You will need to check if you require a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the country. You can find out on the official GOV.UK page. If you already have a visa or ETA, please visit GOV.UK page to establish whether it permits you to undertake study in the UK. If you are already studying in the UK under a visa or ETA, please check if uncredited short courses are permitted. Contact visa@soton.ac.uk if you would like further advice or if you have questions about undertaking a summer school course on an existing visa.
What will I need to apply for a Summer School course?
As part of your application, you will need to provide:
- Your most recent educational transcript. This is an official document from your current or most recent institution that includes your programme of study and a list of your grades. This will be used to confirm your level of education and your English ability, if your course is taught in English. Any educational transcript will need to be in English to be processed correctly. If you are in your first year of study and have yet to receive your grades at the time of application, please let us know by emailing summer@soton.ac.uk
- Proof of English language competency. This could be proof that your current degree is taught in English, or the test result for an official qualification like IELTS or TOEFL iB. We also accept Duolingo language tests. A guide to accepted qualifications and scores can be found on our official English Proficiency website.
