Student fieldtrip

Nowhere is this more telling than in the province of Britannia, which was home to a substantial proportion of the Roman army, but also saw the development of towns, villas and art. In this special topic, you will have the opportunity to study this exciting topic from the material remains themselves. Focussing on areas such as the army, urbanism, religion and art.  You will be introduced to these themes through lectures and seminars, and you will then be able to enhance your knowledge through visits to key museums and sites, including a Roman town and a legionary fortress.

You will learn some of the practical skills we use to uncover new information, such as geophysics and the analysis of excavated materials, and try them for yourself in our world class laboratories. No prior knowledge of the Roman history or archaeology is required.
