Contemporary Global Security Challenges

What are the main threats to global security today and in the near future? What is the nature of these threats? From what and against whom? How might they be addressed?

This topic, delivered by Steve Chisnall, a former Sir Vice-Marshal in the UK’s Royal Air Force, and the Director of Southampton’s MSc in International Security and Risk, provides you with an overview of the main security challenges facing the world today. It provides you with the opportunity to explore answers to the questions posed above through the use of classic and contemporary literature from a range of academic disciplines. You will also be provided with the chance to examine specific case studies to apply these security theories to real world challenges, exploring different policy options that governments could consider, and debating the merits and drawbacks of these approaches.
