Introduction to TESOL

English is the global language. It opens doors to education, job opportunities and travel. Even more useful than knowledge of English is the ability to teach it.

"The world is your oyster"
"The world is your oyster"

This topic offers you a taste of what it is like to be a teacher of English. You will see how grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and other skills can be taught in an enjoyable, communicative and interactive way, using techniques ranging from simple paper-based activities through to ones involving more sophisticated technology. Learning to teach in English gives you a fresh perspective on the variety and richness of this international language.

In the future you may well decide to study in greater depth, perhaps take a Masters Degree in English Language or a full teacher training programme. With a recognised English Language teaching qualification in your backpack “the world is your oyster” - an idiom we will learn during one of the sessions!

The academic organising this topic is Mary Page, Senior Language Teaching Fellow in Academic Centre for International Students.  Find out more about the PGR tutors, Phuong Le Hoang Ngo and Coralie Clerc, on our Meet your PGR Tutor page.
