In the Loop 3 : Voices of Knitting
In the loop 3: the voices of knitting took place at the Winchester Discovery Centre 5-7 September 2012. This third international, interdisciplinary conference opened with a dedication to Richard Rutt (1925-2011). His book "A history of handknitting" remains a key text on this subject. Richard Rutt generously donated his knitting library to the University to join that of Montse Stanley in recognition of their professional friendship. These specialist resources are now an integral part of the Knitting Reference Library.
Each of the keynote speakers at In the loop 3 brought a distinctive approach to looking at knitting. Together with all those who gave papers over the three days, the range and variety of voices made the conference challenging, interesting and thought-provoking. They revealed that knitting is many faceted, is not only for any one single group, is not confined by any one period or place, and that there is no single approach to its history or contemporary manifestation.
