Dr Katherine Kwa has been awarded funding from the Supergen ORE Hub Early Career Researcher Research Fund.  The Supergen ORE Hub grants this award annually, where applications are scored against assessment criteria of personal development, additionality, excellence, impact and alignment with the objectives of the Supergen Ore Hub.

The project, titled ‘Development of an integrated anchor model via industry engagement,’ extends Katherine’s recent work on the whole-life time-dependent capacity of anchoring systems, which has revealed potentially significant ‘hidden’ anchor capacity. The project involves collaboration with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), aiming to explore new methods for capturing consolidation and aging effects in seabed-anchor interactions during realistic whole-life loading conditions, and develop efficient computational models that integrate the anchor into floating system models. These activities will be facilitated via a placement at NGI in Oslo and will lead to both research outcomes and also industry-aimed outputs.
