This is a time of change for the actuarial profession. Kalpana will talk about her personal journey to becoming an actuary and her very varied career experience. She will also highlight the skills and expertise required of actuaries, and what the future may hold for students thinking of entering the profession.

Actually, I’m an Actuary: My Journey and the Future of the Profession

The lecture will take place in Building 54 (Mathematical Sciences Building) room 4011 (L/T A) from 3-3:45pm and this will be followed by refreshments until 4:30pm in the Mathematical Sciences Student Centre (Building 56) providing the opportunity for students to chat informally with Kalpana and with Richard Scott, IFoA Head of UK, Europe, and Employers.

About the speaker

Kalpana is President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and has 30 years of business experience in the insurance and investment industry. She is now one of a handful of female Chairs in the insurance industry and a non-executive director of several organisations. In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kalpana headed the first voluntary team of actuaries helping the UK’s National Health Service with emergency analytics and planning.
