We consider the canonical action of the maximal torus (algebraic or compact) on a homogeneous space G/P, where G is a compact, complex, semisimple Lie group and P is its standard parabolic subgroup. We will explain how this action relates to the action of the same torus on the corresponding complex projective space via a Plucker embedding. We demonstrate this relation in the case of the complex Grassmann manifold and discuss related problems.
