The Ian and Mildred Karten Memorial Lecture is part of the Parkes Institute annual lecture series and has been named to honour the generosity and interest shown by Ian and Mildred in the Parkes Institute.

Overcoming the 'Dark Past': Confronting the Holocaust in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine

After several decades of progress in coming to terms with the involvement of some Poles, Lithuanians and Ukrainians in the mass murder of the Jews by the Nazi government of Germany during the Second World War, a populist reaction has developed calling into question this self-critical approach. Looking at this process from a comparative perspective makes it possible to identify both its common features and its specific character in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine.

Speaker information

Professor Antony Polonsky,Brandeis University,Professor Polonsky is Albert Abramson Professor of Holocaust Studies at Brandeis University. He is the author of many historical works on the Holocaust, and is an expert on Polish Jewish history.
