Undergraduate Introduction

Studying Jewish history, culture and religion from the ancient to the contemporary world provides the opportunity to examine a subject of fundamental importance to knowledge of inter-cultural issues that impact on today's world. Our students look at the variety of issues that have impacted on the Jewish people throughout history and have influenced the relationship between Jews and non-Jews to the present. Our students also draw upon the unique resources of the Parkes Institute, with its world reputation for Jewish Studies.

Academic staff within Parkes are enthusiastic teachers, who create a friendly, flexible and supportive teaching environment. Our academic staff are also active researchers, which means that our students are taught by staff who are working at the cutting edge of their subject area and who are eager to share their latest work and ideas.

Postgraduate Introduction

The Parkes Institute postgraduate programmes have trained hundreds of students from various disciplinary backgrounds, including history, literature, music, politics and beyond.

Our taught MA Jewish History and Culture builds on the world-class resources of the University's Parkes Library and Jewish Archives to provide a thorough exploration of Jewish history and culture through the ages. The course is suitable for students from a wide range of discipline backgrounds and is offered on both a full and part time basis.

The expertise of our academics ranges from antiquity through to the present day, and we are able to offer supervision for a wide range of research interests at PhD level.

MA and PhD students are an integral part of our vibrant intellectual community, participating in our regular programme of seminars and conferences. The diversity of our student community adds to the richness of the experience: we attract local, national, and international students, as well as many mature students.

Our graduates have gone on to exciting careers in the media, museums, interfaith and race relations work, teaching, marketing, the civil service and many others.

We offer a range of funding opportunities for graduate students.
