Teaching

Welcome to the Teaching section of the Parkes website. Here, you will find information about undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and opportunities available through the Parkes Institute.

Study With Us
Studying Jewish history, culture and religion from the ancient to the contemporary world provides the opportunity to examine a subject of fundamental importance to knowledge of inter-cultural issues that impact on today's world.

Our members teach across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate modules across the Faculty of Humanities. Through this teaching, our students look at the variety of issues that have impacted on the Jewish people throughout history and have influenced the relationship between Jews and non-Jews to the present. Our students also draw upon the unique resources of the Parkes Institute, with its world reputation for Jewish Studies.

Academic staff within Parkes are enthusiastic teachers, who create a friendly, flexible and supportive teaching environment. Our academic staff are also active researchers, which means that our students are taught by staff who are working at the cutting edge of their subject area and who are eager to share their latest work and ideas.

Our graduates have gone on to exciting careers in the media, museums, interfaith and race-relations work, teaching, marketing, the civil service and many others.

Postgraduate Opportunities
The Parkes Institute offers postgraduate teaching and PhD supervision across a wide array of subjects, with the expertise of our academics ranging from antiquity through to the present day.

Our postgraduate students are an integral part of our vibrant intellectual community, participating in our regular programme of seminars and conferences, including our doctoral seminar programme which offers a space for our students to discover their search with their colleagues and peers. The diversity of our student community adds to the richness of the experience: we attract local, national, and international students, as well as many mature students.

We offer a range of funding opportunities for graduate students.
