Dr Jude Coggon has been appointed by UKRI-NERC in the new role of UK-IODP Knowledge Exchange Coordinator, following renewal of the UK’s subscription to the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) in 2019. Jude is based in Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton, where she is supported by a large team with great experience in scientific ocean drilling. However, this is very much a national role and her principal aim is to improve communications and greatly raise the profile of IODP and the UK’s leadership and successes in scientific ocean drilling. To this end, Jude will be working with environmental scientists across the UK to increase engagement, not only within the academic community but with industry, policy makers, educators and the public.

Before taking on the UK-IODP role Dr Coggon worked as the Project Manager for the Oman Drilling Project, a large international multi-disciplinary project run out of Southampton, to investigate the formation and evolution of the ocean crust and modern day reactions between the Earth’s mantle and surface fluids.
