SMMI welcomes Tamara Topic to the Maritime Decarbonisation Team

The SMMI has recently welcomed Tamara Topic MSc to the maritime decarbonisation team as a post-doctoral research fellow in Future Ports and CO2 Shipping, as part of the UKRI IDRIC CO2 Ports to Pipeline project. Tamara is a naval architect and mechanical engineer and is soon to defend her PhD Thesis in Sustainable Shipping, ship energy efficiency and decarbonisation at Newcastle University, where she worked as a research assistant in the Centre for Energy and National Centre for Systems Integration. Her main research interests are zero emission shipping and zero emission power systems, particularly green hydrogen.  She will also contribute her expertise to the on-going Clean Maritime Demonstrator Competition projects.

Tamara’s background is in quality assurance and quality systems integration. She has over twenty years of experience in the luxury crewed yachts industry as a charterer and a yacht consulting client engineer. Tamara was a lecturer in quality assurance, naval architecture, ship construction, and mathematics for engineers at the Marine School of Higher Education and Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne and University of Applied Sciences in Zagreb.
