Ocean Science & Engineering in Zhejiang Unversity

In May 2009 the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University was established.  With the support of the Government and University authorities it has continued to develop and will now become a new college: Ocean College.  A Government investment of 3 billion RMB has enabled the creation of a purpose-built campus to be located in the Zhoushan Archipelago which will provide convenient access to the ocean and the ship building industry.

Prof. Ying Ye, Zhejiang University. Professor Ying Ye currently is the Vice Dean of Department of Ocean Science & Engineering, Zhejiang University, PR China. He got his first degree in 1980, MSc in 1982 and PhD of economic geology and geochemistry in 1985 from Nanjing University. He joined Zhejiang University as a lecture in 1985, promoted to an associated professor in 1990 and a full professor in 1995. He was invited as a senior visiting scholar to visit Leicester University in 1989, Tokyo University in 1996, Macaulay Land Use Research Institute at Aberdeen in 2000, Minnesota University, USA in 2004 and Miami University, Ohio in 2005. Professor Ye has been the principal investigators managing many important research projects supported by Chinese Government, Natural Science Foundation of China as well as Industries contracts. He is an expert in Marine Geology area and his main research interests include marine mineral resources, sampling and detecting technology for seafloor hydrothermal systems and gas hydrate. He is an author of 63 international journal / conference papers since 2005. Dr Ye is not only a theoretical professor but also a senior practical researcher putting more attention to ocean development and explosion. He was one of principal members in the world cruises of Chinese Research Vessels, “Da Yang Yi Hao” in middle Pacific Ocean in 2003 and “Ocean 4” in South China Sea in 2006.
