A Social Sciences academic has recently returned from India where he has been meeting with institutions to discuss the potential to create international partnerships and joint programmes.

Dr Pathik Pathak , Lecturer in Sociology and Director of Undergraduate Programmes, met representatives from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Jai Hind College and St Xavier’s to look at how the organisations could work with the University of Southampton to exchange and share resources for social enterprises between India and the UK.

He is interested in developing an integrated exchange programme that would enable Indian students to get a taste of the UK and vice versa – at undergraduate level with Jai Hind and St Xavier’s and at postgraduate and research level with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

“The aim is to create the capacity for cross-cultural learning benefits, of interacting with the colleges to produce joint models for student and faculty exchanges, internships and placements,” he said.

“It would add a whole new level to any student’s understanding as both countries are so different,” he added.

During his visit Pathik gave a talk to students at Jai Hind College on social enterprise. This was part of a series of talks and workshops that the University of Southampton will be doing over the next year to support Jai Hind’s development of social enterprise.

Pathik is also helping set up a social enterprise division in the College’s Entrepreneurship Cell and students from the University’s Students in Free Enterprise Society will work with Jai Hind students to set up the society.
