Research Fellow in Climate Change Governance, Mitigation and Adaptation

This position is available as a part-time 50% Full Time Equivalent, fixed term for 12 months. Fluency in Portuguese would be advantageous

This position provides the opportunity to participate in two international research projects and vibrant interdisciplinary research environment in the social and sustainability science and excellent contacts to international research groups.

You will contribute to the ‘Multi-level Governance, REDD+ and Synergies between Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation' research project. This research project seeks to understand the extent to which policy processes of forest related climate change mitigation and adaptation should be integrated at different scales (global, national and local) in order to deliver effective emission reductions and development compatible outcomes.

The project will identify existing governance opportunities for and constraints to such integration and explore how the latter can be overcome. The project investigates these processes in relation to the two country cases, Brazil and Indonesia.
You will be required to undertake research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI). You will undertake a qualitative content analysis of policy documents, contribute to the research design including preparation of a survey questionnaire, and creation and maintenance of a database. You will undertake the content analysis in Portuguese and English language and contribute to the policy analysis to investigate the synergies between mitigation and adaptation under the supervision of the principal investigator.

You will have a PhD (or close to obtaining) in social science aspects of Climate Change, Sustainability, Political Science, Political Ecology, Rural/International Development, Human Geography, Environmental Sociology or related discipline and research interests in the governance and politics of climate change with expertise in the political and socio-ecological aspects of mitigation/adaptation. You will have excellent knowledge of Portuguese and English language and proven skills in computer assisted qualitative content analysis. You must have demonstrable research and writing skills as the post will require contribution to research publications.

University Grade 7 (£30,728 - £36,661 p.a) pro-rata.
