ABSTRACT:
Climate change is one of the most difficult challenges for humanity. While international climate policy traditionally focuses on mitigating climate change by reducing carbon emissions, adaptation is the main concern at the national and local level for most of developing countries. Adaptation attempts to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change on populations and enhances the adaptive capacities of individuals and society as a whole.
This one-day workshop aims to explore the challenges of adaptation in the Global South. The objectives of this workshop are to:
a) Raise awareness of the issues of climate change impacts and adaptation needs in the Global South
b) Share case studies and research outcomes by doctoral students, and
c) Generate discussion on the implications of these outcomes to climate change adaptation practice and research.
The one-day workshop is open and FREE to everyone offering an opportunity to learn about and contribute to the debate on the role of the South in adapting to climate change.
Lunch provided.
