Published: 14 May 2013

Former MSc Gerontology (Research) student Emily Clay’s dissertation on Modal age at death: mortality trends in England and Wales 1841-2010 is contributing to our understanding of mortality trends.

Emily’s continuing work at the Demographic Analysis Unit of the Office for National Statistics indicates that average life span has increased by almost a decade over the last 50 years.

Emily studied MSc Gerontology and was supervised by Professor Maria Evandrou and Dr Athina Vlachantoni. She received a distinction for her dissertation when graduating in 2012.
