Current Projects – Discomfort of Reclined Seats
Development of metrics for objective measurement of dynamic comfort of reclined seats
In many forms of transport, seats with variable inclined-backrests are used to provide passengers with support and comfort. This project aims to investigate the influence of backrest inclination on discomfort arising from vertical whole-body vibration, taking into account the characteristics of multi-input vibration at the seat (z-axis) and the backrest (x- and z-axis). Suitable metrics will be developed for use in the objective measurement of the dynamic performance of seats and optimising dynamic comfort at various backrest inclinations.
