Coming from a busy metropolitan city, I love how peaceful and green Southampton is. There are a lot of outdoor spaces in and outside of campus to study and spend time in with lots of fresh air. Both Southampton and Winchester are very student friendly and safe cities.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

I chose Southampton firstly, because of their reputation for a strong dedication to academic excellence and a friendly learning environment. Being part of a Russell Group institution means we are offered valuable research opportunities which would greatly benefit my career. Secondly, the modules offered in the FMM course are very diverse, which interested me, I really enjoy learning about the creative and management field at the same time.

What do you enjoy the most about living in Southampton or Winchester?

Coming from a busy metropolitan city, I love how peaceful and green Southampton is. There are a lot of outdoor spaces in and outside of campus to study and spend time in with lots of fresh air. Both Southampton and Winchester are very student friendly and safe cities. My course is based in the Winchester campus, and I really like how the city is full of culture, which makes it the perfect location for an Art school. My favorite places in the cities are The Winchester Guildhall, Josie’s, The Centenary building and The Mitre. Transportation connectivity in and around Southampton is really strong, the UniLink and local buses provide affordable and time-saving travel for students.

Have you undertaken any extracurricular activities? How have they enhanced your experience?

I love the vast variety of clubs and societies we can be a part of here in Southampton. I’ve joined the Bollywood Dance society and we have performed at 4 big societal events so far, this past year. I work as a student ambassador, which involves organizing and helping with day-to-day events at campus. Being an Ambassador for the WPSM (Widening Participation and Social Mobility) scheme, I also have the great opportunity to work with young school and college students to help their transition to university.

What are you most proud of from your time at the University of Southampton so far?

Most importantly, I’m really proud of how independent the University lifestyle has made me. Starting University was a massive transition which I found quite overwhelming at first but now, I’ve found the right balance between my academic and social life, and extracurriculars too. Living in Southampton means having to travel 30 minutes every day to WSA and I’m making that work into my routine quite well. While focusing on my academics, I’m equally able to devote time to my health and fitness, cultural society work and Ambassador work. One of my goals for 2024 was to start working on my fitness levels which seemed quite difficult initially, however I realized that going to dance sessions every day and regular gym workouts not only fulfil this goal but also enhances my overall happiness.

How have the people you have met at Southampton changed your life?

At Southampton, I’ve found friends that are now a very important part of my life, people I can call my family, making this city my second home.

What will you do with your degree after you have finished your studies?

After completing my degree, I’m hoping to gain real-world experience in the corporate world, with a career in a field of my choice such as Digital Marketing or Styling. Towards the end of my degree, I’m hoping to specialize in a module that would further open doors for a Masters program, and I’m sure the university will prepare us well for such future challenges.

Can you sum up your University of Southampton experience in three words?

A rollercoaster rides!
