As a Paediatric Registrar but also as a parent, allergy is something that greatly interested me. I wanted to ensure I fully understood the problems my patients present with, and to provide them with the best, most up to date evidence-based care I possibly can. I felt completing the MSc in Allergy would help me to achieve this and I had heard excellent things about course at the University of Southampton, so I enrolled.

I enjoyed the variety of learning styles and the relevance of the content of each module. There was a lovely mix of basic science, practical skills, patient encounters, research, and latest guidelines all delivered by expert speakers.

This course is beautifully tailored to educate all members of a multidisciplinary team about the background of, current best practice in, and management of patients with allergies. It additionally provides you with the opportunity to learn essential generic research and teaching skills.

I largely studied away from the University campus, visiting only for the taught modules but I found the offsite access to the library and student support via Blackboard excellent. One of the best parts about studying at Southampton was the fantastic support I received from the course faculty and the additional experience, learning and management opportunities I had whilst I was the course student representative. I did this for two years and it provided me with a fantastic insight into the hard work that goes into organising, structuring, marketing and managing a university course.

The teaching is fantastic and engaging, and the faculty are incredibly approachable and supportive. I am very grateful to have studied at Southampton and I would encourage anyone with an interest in allergy to enrol on this course.

I am hoping to go on to hold a consultant post in general paediatrics with a special interest in allergy and I know my MSc will help with that process as well as with my understanding and managing my future patients.
