Ocean and Earth Science Achieves Exceptional Results in National Student Survey 2013
Our ocean and Earth degree programmes have achieved exceptional results in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2013, with geoscience achieving 100% for ‘overall student satisfaction’.
Following on from the success of the 2012 results, our ocean and Earth programmes again achieved outstanding scores in the six key aspects of the student learning experience in the National Student Survey 2013. Our geosciences, marine biology & oceanography programmes scored exceptionally well with selected degree programmes scoring top marks. These results are a tremendous acknowledgment of the high esteem in which our undergraduate students view the ocean and Earth degree programmes offered at Southampton University.

Ocean and Earth Science is based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton which due to its unique positioning and outstanding facilities attracts prominent researchers and educators from around the world. Our students have access to highly equipped laboratories, research ships, ocean technology and opportunities for fieldwork and scientific cruises not traditionally found in standard university environments.
The NSS is a high profile national annual census of mostly undergraduate final year students. It is an established survey and produces influential Higher Education public information, giving students a powerful collective voice. It asks 23 core questions, relating to six key aspects of the student learning experience including: academic support, the teaching on my course, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.
