Hi, I'm Beth Parsons and I studied BSc Psychology and MSc Research Methods in Psychology at the University of Southampton.

The outstanding facilities and resources are easily accessible for the students and the highly qualified teaching staff are incredibly encouraging.

Q: Why did you choose to undertake your studies in Psychology at the University of Southampton?
During a visit to the University of Southampton, prior to starting my undergraduate degree, I immediately felt the welcoming and supportive nature of the teaching staff within Psychology. I have discovered that, as a place of learning, this university is vibrant and stimulating. Psychology (at the university of Southampton) is incredibly well respected and I have experienced an extremely high level of expertise throughout my time here as an undergraduate.

Q: What did you enjoy about studying Psychology at Southampton?
I have thrived on the high quality learning environment that Psychology at Southampton offers. The outstanding facilities and resources are easily accessible for the students and the highly qualified teaching staff are incredibly encouraging. I was offered an interesting and varied choice of modules, especially during my final undergraduate year when I selected those best suited to my interests and future aspirations.

Q: What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?
Studying at Southampton enabled me to achieve a highly regarded qualification, recognised worldwide for its excellent status. Being a student here not only allowed me to develop my teamwork skills, but it also increased my capacity to work independently and to become a self-motivated individual with a thirst for increasing my knowledge beyond degree level.

Q; Have you studied any postgraduate programmes at Southampton?
Having completed my third year research project within the field of Forensic Psychology, I took up the opportunity to undertake a Masters programme - MSc Research Methods in Psychology in 2013 and graduated in December of that year.

Since then, I have worked as a research assistant within the Psychology department at the University as well as at Southampton General Hospital within the Clinical Academic Facility, where I am still currently working. My first position involved running a laboratory based experiment exploring various aspects of Social Psychology. I am now working within the Faculty of Health Sciences, assisting with the day to day running of various Skin Health research projects. My role consists of liaising with external companies, preparing ethical reports, recruiting participants, and analysing data sets; skills I acquired and developed throughout my MSc year.
