We are fortunate to have a wide variety of musical activity taking place right in the heart of our campuses.
Turner Sims hosts a programme of over 60 concerts a year. These feature contemporary jazz, world music, traditional folk music and the biggest names in classical.
To keep up to date with events and concerts organised by the University Music department, visit the Music events webpage. In addition, staff and students in the department regularly post news and events in their Music at Southampton blog. The department has also developed the SHOWCASE programme, providing professional training and opportunities for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate performers.
Experienced singers and complete beginners alike are welcome at the University's community choir. Visit the University of Southampton Voices website to find out how to join and the times and places of rehearsals.
Nuffield Theatre is a professional theatre on Highfield Campus.
Awarded ‘Regional Theatre of the Year 2015’ at The Stage Awards, Nuffield Theatre is Southampton’s leading theatre company.
Well-known companies and comedians visit Nuffield theatre. It has hosted touring productions of hit West End shows. Nuffield Theatre also creates its own bold, distinctive productions.
Nuffield can offer opportunities for volunteering and work experience. Students can usher shows (and see them for free in the process), while the EXTRAS scheme can offer work experience to those looking for a career in theatre administration, marketing or producing.
Keep an eye on our Twitter feed below for our regular student offers; we announce £3.00 preview tickets and £5.00 standby tickets 48 hours in advance for selected shows.
There is no shortage of visual arts to enjoy at our Highfield and Winchester campuses.
John Hansard Gallery hosts five exhibitions a year. It also hosts artist talks and tours, creative workshops, panel discussions, seminars and conferences.
The Winchester School of Art (WSA), based on our Winchester campus, is one of the UK’s leading art and design institutions, with a 150-year history. The WSA is home to the on-site Winchester Gallery, and hosts many events and exhibitions throughout the year. Go to the WSA events page to find out what's on, or follow the WSA postgraduate research blog for news, comment and events.
The Hartley Library, based on Highfield Campus, often hosts exhibitions in the Special Collections Gallery. Sometimes these are drawn from the Library's own special collections, or organised by the John Hansard Gallery or the WSA. Find out what's coming up on their Special Collections exhibitions page.
